A major operation has enabled the evacuation of several dozen people from the Palestinian enclave. According to information obtained from a diplomatic source, France evacuated 44 residents of the Gaza Strip on 24 August. These Palestinian nationals were able to leave the territory as part of a targeted arrangement, put in place to secure their departure from the conflict zone. Among those evacuated are students holding French government scholarships, as well as academics and researchers who are recipients of the national emergency reception programme for exiled scientists, known as the PAUSE programme. This humanitarian operation is part of Paris’s commitment to supporting particularly vulnerable academic and scientific profiles in the region.
Resumption of Transfers to France After a Long Interruption
This movement represents a significant turning point in the assistance corridor established by Paris. Indeed, no evacuation of Gazan nationals to French territory had been recorded for several months, due to logistical difficulties and extremely degraded security conditions on the ground. Border crossings remain highly secure and subject to complex authorisations from the various parties to the conflict.
